News from Russ !!16December2003:
Things are going well here in Kabul.
We have 52 triwalls(4x4x3feet) of Mercury Hope supplies,
"You can fit AN AWFUL LOT OF STUFF in 1, and we have 52 !!!!.
We are going to start this week, once we devise a plan to get items moving quickly.
Although Christmas may not be celebrated in Afghanistan, at least this year we
truly get to experience the gift of giving !!."
with another 50 (that we know of) in bound in the next few days.
3 RCR rear party, and 3 RCR CIMIC has been a great help and the transport of
supplies from Canada to Kabul WOULD not have happened without them. My
kudos and thanks to them.

On that note, they have had to close the pipeline of humanitarian assistance
from the Canada Petawawa Base. No more items for Mercury Hope, or other HA, will be accepted
at Base Petawawa. Any items currently there, are good to go, but no more
will be accepted. ....Items can still be sent to CLI in
Kingston, but that is it. For the items that are being sent to Kingston, we
are working on getting FedEx to transport them here (time permitting) or
elsewhere (more info on that later)

Again, thanks to all, and I will be coming out with more info, and pictures
shortly.

RUSSELL D STORRING:
 CBC News Viewpoint

"September in Kabul began with a sand storm
that rolled across the city, darkened the sky
and covered everything with powdered
dirt that had a foul taste....."

"Again I visit the day-care centre a few kilometres down the road
with the padre and some other people from Camp Warehouse who wish to make
a difference here. Our small party drops off kitchen supplies, utensils,
some school items and toys. The scared looks on the children's faces
quickly melt away when they see the toys are for them.

I watch as they take turns coming up to pick out toys, wide-eyed and
seemingly unbelieving. They sit playing with their new possessions,
talking excitedly in their own language, acting like children should,
and I smile. We leave, promising to return in a few weeks to simply
play with the children, a language that we can all understand."
